CLAUDIA MANDLER McKNIGHT

Claudia is a visual artist with formal training in Art History, Fine Art, and Art Therapy. She pursued undergraduate studies in art history and art at Queen’s University and OCAD; she holds a Master’s degree from the University of Toronto and a post-graduate diploma from the Toronto Art Therapy Institute.

Working with encaustic or oil and cold wax on eroded wood or stretched canvas, Claudia explores landscapes of memory and possibility, and journeys of the mind and heart. Compositions are suggested by the physical site, the irregularities of the painting surface and the actual process of layering and mark-making.

Claudia’s paintings have developed as a response to the luminous power of nature, first on Lake Penage, northern Ontario; then in Newfoundland, British Columbia, and the Yukon; and now on Georgian Bay in Ontario.
